A Realistic Timeline for Your Dream Pool

If you’ve been imagining turning your backyard into a private retreat, one of the first questions you probably have is, “How long will it take to build my pool?”

At Southern Pool Designs, every project is engineered with precision, artistry, and care. While no two pools are exactly alike, here’s what a realistic, transparent build timeline looks like in Florida from your first design to your first swim.

Step 1: Design Deposit → 3D Design (About 1 Week)

Once you place your design deposit, our creative team gets right to work. Within roughly one week, you’ll receive a custom 3D design rendering that captures your exact vision – layout, materials, and features included.

You’ll have the chance to review and refine every detail. Once approved, your spot is officially locked into our build schedule, and we prepare to move into engineering.

Step 2: Project Deposit → Final Plans (1–2 Weeks for Standard Builds, 4–6 Weeks for Signature Projects)

Your project deposit triggers detailed structural engineering. Our in-house engineers prepare plans that are third-party stamped and designed to exceed Florida building code for strength and longevity.

  • Standard Pools: 1–2 weeks for engineering and approval
  • Signature or Complex Builds: 4–6 weeks depending on scope

This step ensures your project is engineered to perfection before we ever break ground Southern Pool Designs Timeline.

Step 3: Permit Submission → Approval (2–6 Weeks)

Once plans are stamped and finalized, our team submits your permit within 24 hours.

Approval times vary across Florida municipalities, but most fall between 2 and 6 weeks. We track, manage, and communicate progress throughout the entire process ensuring your project never sits idle waiting for paperwork.

Step 4: Construction Phase (10+ Weeks on Average)

When the permit is approved, construction begins immediately.

  • Simple pools: as fast as 8 weeks
  • Larger or feature-heavy projects: typically 16–20+ weeks

From excavation and steel to plumbing, gunite, tile, and decking, every phase is managed by your dedicated project manager, who provides weekly updates so you always know what’s next.

We operate without backlogs or downtime; each project moves at a steady, professional pace toward completion.

Step 5: Interior Finish & Startup (1–2 Weeks)

Once construction wraps, your pool receives its final interior finish such as marcite, Diamond Brite, or PebbleTec and is then filled and balanced.

Within a week or two, your pool is fully operational and ready to enjoy.

Typical Project Durations

Here’s an overview of average timelines for different pool types:
